Every time you mould yourself to be like someone else in looks, words, or actions, you are sending a subliminal message that who YOU are isn’t good enough. The purpose of inspiration is to tap into an energy that encourages you to go within yourself in order to create something that is a beautiful reflection of you. If you simply mirror someone else, you are not being true to your soul which is the essence of who you are.
Fashion is a great example of how people may conform to trends just because they are currently in style, and other people are wearing them. I have always had a passion for fashion, and beautiful clothing and accessories. I do love to keep on top of the current trends in terms of colours, style etc. The current trends are for you to interpret whether they suit your personality, and whether you like the way they look on you. If you do like a trend embrace it, but do not feel bound to wear it the same way others do.
I have always been excited, and inspired, by the idea of creating something NEW. Every time I see people do an obvious imitation of someone, or something else, in any area of life (i.e. the arts, business, etc.) it makes me cringe. (Unless they have declared that they are doing an imitation, or impersonation as an homage) It is because it feels like they are selling themselves short. We are all here on this planet for a limited time. My heartfelt suggestion is to not spend time doing your best impersonation of someone else. In the words of Kami Garcia, “Dig deep. Find your way to your soul.” That is where the treasure lies. Within your own soul.
What it boils down to is simple. Self-love. Love yourself enough to honour who you were born to be. Express YOUR soul every chance you get with your thoughts, words, and actions.
On that note, I want to wish you a beautiful Valentine’s Day! Celebrate the heck out of the ability to show, give, and receive LOVE. Show yourself some love, and promise that you will always be true to you. There is a lot of truth in this quote by Lucille Ball. “Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.”
